Chawan Kokeniwa – silent depth and grounded tranquility

The name Kokeniwa is composed of koke (moss) and niwa (garden). It describes a place of tranquility: a shady garden floor covered in moss, cool, soft, and timeless. This handcrafted matcha bowl embodies precisely this atmosphere.

The surface displays muted green-gray glaze tones reminiscent of damp stone, moss, and earth. Nothing is loud, nothing pushes its way to the forefront. Instead, a tranquil depth unfolds, palpable when holding the chawan . The slightly irregular shape follows the principle of wabi-sabi , making each tea ceremony more personal.

A typical feature of chawans from the Mino region is the unglazed base . It reveals the natural texture of the clay and forms a deliberate contrast to the glazed bowl. This detail combines functionality with centuries-old Japanese ceramic tradition.

This matcha bowl is suitable for both daily use and mindful tea moments. It blends harmoniously into any collection and can be ideally combined with other pieces from the range.
