Yuzamashi "Tetsu": Traditional cooling vessel in Tokoname ceramic for tea perfection

The Yuzamashi “Tetsu” (“Iron”) is a traditional cooling vessel that has been developed over the centuries to cool boiling hot tea water to the optimal temperature for Sencha, Genmaicha or Gyokuro. Thanks to its unique composition of iron-rich clay from the Chita Peninsula - a trademark of Tokoname ceramics - “Tetsu” helps you enjoy a tea experience that fully brings out the delicate aromas of Japanese green tea.

How to use the traditional tool correctly

To achieve the best temperature for Sencha or Genmaicha, first fill boiling water into the Yuzamashi . After a short cooling time , pour the water into a teapot to brew the tea and achieve an ideal drinking temperature of around 80°C. To prepare Gyokuro, it is recommended to first pour the water into a teacup and then over the Yuzamashi into the pot to achieve the perfect temperature of 70°C.

The Yuzamashi "Tetsu" not only stands for exquisite aesthetics and functionality , but also celebrates the deep connection with Japanese tradition and Tokoname's outstanding craftsmanship. It is the ideal addition for anyone who appreciates the Japanese tea ceremony - whether a newbie or an experienced tea connoisseur. Complete your tea collection with this masterpiece of Japanese tradition.
