Chawan - Matcha bowl “Satsuma”: Original design with ancient history

The Chawan “Satsuma” is visually reminiscent of the sweet citrus fruit that is native to southern Japan. This type of Chawan is called “ Shino ” in Japan and is characterized by its milky white glaze , which is artfully decorated with tiny holes to bring out the strong red color underneath. This technique underlines the masterful craftsmanship and gives each piece its unique character.

Craftsmanship and origin

Our Chawans are handmade unique pieces and are made using traditional methods that date back to the 7th century. They come from the Mino region, where this craft began centuries ago. To this day, almost half of all Japanese ceramic objects are handmade in Mino.

The Chawan "Satsuma" is not only an instrument for your daily tea ceremony, but also a piece of Japanese history that you can bring home. Whether for yourself or as a special gift for a lover of Japanese culture - "Satsuma" is an enrichment for any collection.
