"Honai" is derived from high-quality first-harvest Tencha from Shiga. Especially tender tea leaves give it its characteristic flavor profile: velvety and delicately sweet, with an elegant chocolatey note. Its color is deep dark green, and whisking it creates a dense, creamy foam.
The 100g refill pouch is ideal if you enjoy Honai regularly and would like to transfer the matcha into a suitable light- and airtight tin. This allows you to stock a larger quantity of this premium matcha without needing a new tin every time.
For Koicha & Usucha
Honai is particularly well-suited for Koicha, the concentrated preparation method of the Japanese tea ceremony using little water. Its fine sweetness, velvety texture, and depth of flavor are brought out particularly well this way.
Honai can also be prepared as Usucha if you prefer an intense yet smooth matcha.
Due to its high-quality positioning, Honai is not our primary recommendation for matcha lattes, mixed drinks, or baking – its fine nuances are best revealed when prepared pure.
